Nails Inspired by Boo

Hi guys, I hope everyone had a lovely Christmas and got lots of nice things. I shall try to take some pictures of the polishes I got but I don't know if I'll manage it as I got a grand total of 57 polishes.

Anyway I had an idea for a mani but it didn't turn out they way I had imagined it. I wanted to do nails based on this wee guy.

Now for anyone who doesn't know this wee guy, where on earth have you been?! Just kidding! this wee fella is called Boo and he is officially the World's Cutest Dog. He is a pomeranian but his owners have cut in his fur so he resembles a wee bear. Awww!

So guess what I got for my Christmas, no not a real one unfortunately but the next best thing.

Don't they look so similar? I just need someone with magical powers to make him real for me. Anyone? Anyone?

Onto the nails, I had initially wanted to do a gradient with colours similar to Boo's fur but I am absolutely atrocious at doing gradients and it just ended up looking horrible so I scrapped that idea and this is what I done instead.

And here is what I used:

No7 So Smooth Base Coat*
Barry M in Matte White
Technic in Nude
W7 Black(?)
Seche Vite
BM-306

Now I've listed the white polish as it's under the nude but I only had this on as it was to be one of my gradient colours and I couldn't be bothered removing it when it didn't work.

I am really pleased with the nude, it's not a colour I would normally go for but I actually really like it. It's a cheaper make of polish that I've seen in Bodycare before but never tried and I got a set of 16 of them for my Christmas. Since it was a cheaper make I wasn't expecting a lot but it did deliver, plus they're cruelty free which I was not expecting at all.

Robyn x

I will wish you all a Happy New Year just now as I probably won't be doing any new year nails. I am working 5 days as normal this week, including new year's day at 5am, so I doubt I shall have any time for any fun sparkly nails. I hope you all have a nice time whatever you get up to. Stay safe and I shall see you all in 2013.

Christmas Lights Nails

This is one I've been wanting to try for a while but knew my hands just weren't steady enough to do it freehand, so when I saw plates from Bunny Nails that had Christmas lights on them I just had to get them.

What I used:

Boots No7 So Smooth Base Coat*
Revlon Blue Lagoon*
Collection 2000 French White*
Models Own Jack Frost
Barry M 134 (yellow)
Hello Kitty Whatcha(?)
China Glaze Ruby Deer
W7 Black(?)
Seche Vite
plate HD-07

Quite a few colours used there. I sponged the white on in order to get it to look like snow, my sponging/gradient skills are great but it's alright for my first proper attempt, then I used the Models Own glitter over the white only. Stamped the lights in the black and used a kirby grip to dot on the lights in the various colours and I have to admit I really like it.

Anyway folks, I hope everyone has a really nice Christmas and doesn't eat too much. lol

Gift Wrapped Nails

So I have a bit of a 2 for 1 today, I have done 2 Christmas manis this week but I've been struggling with a really bad throat infection. I finally got to the doctor today and got some antibiotics, so hopefully that will be me on track. Just a pity I only have 2 days off. I have been feeling that rubbish that I said yesterday "I can't be bothered doing my nails", yes I actually uttered those words but in seeing my bare nails I knew they had to be done plus they were sort of expecting them at work.

Here is what I used:

Boots No7 So Smooth Base Coat*
China Glaze Ruby Pumps
Barry M Foil Effects in Gold
Seche Vite
Bundle Monster  Hawaiian Christmas Special Edition BM-SE1

So my bows aren't exactly straight but if you see my wrapping then you'll know they're perfectly appropriate.

Candy Cane Nails

Here is my attempt at candy cane nails for Christmas. I wasn't thrilled with them at the start but like most of my manis it did start to grow on me.

Barry M White Matte
Nails Inc Milan - Diet Coke Special Edition
Max Factor Extra Glitter*
NYC Top Coat*
Bundle Monster plate BM-20

Now the plate I used for stamping the stripes was from the 1st Bundle Monster collection, we all know how small they are, so I decided not to do this on my thumbs and I got stuck on what to do. So I decided to just use C Varnish in Queen of Hearts, which is a really lovely red but a nightmare to get any hearts out.

I was still having to use the horrid NYC Top Coat which smudges any design but I have been telling people it gives it that licked candy cane look. Lol. Ewww. Also the glitter is kind of hard to see in the picture but it totally adds to the Christmassy-ness of the mani.

Anyway, my new Seche Vite has arrived today so no more smudged mani. I also received my new Bundle Monster plates (the newest 2012 collection, yes I know I'm late to the party) and my special edition Hawaiian Christmas plate so I shall be doing another Christmas mani shortly.

Liebster Award

How exciting! I have been nominated for a Liebster Award from Loz at Polish and Patterns and I've been super busy this week, so this is my first chance to post about it. Thanks Loz! The Liebster Award is for new bloggers with under 200 followers which is definitely me as I only have 7. I think it's a chance to give new bloggers more exposure, which is definitely a good thing in my book.

Here are the rules:

1. If you are nominated for the award, post it up on your blog and thank other person who awarded you.

2. In the post let everyone know 11 facts about yourself.

3. Answer the 11 questions your nominee has asked you.

4. Choose 11 other bloggers with under 200 followers to nominate (not the person who nominated you), link to their blog and make sure you let them know they are nominated.

5. Choose 11 questions for your nominees to answer.

6. The nominees do their bit and the Liebster love keeps going round and round.

So here are my 11 facts:

1. I say 'so' far too much, it really is like an illness.

2. I have been to Paris 20 times.
3. I am terrified of spiders, it really does take over my life at sometimes. It's one of the reasons I'm holding off on going to Australia. Booo!
4. I have been working ever since I turned 16.
5. I've only ever had 2 jobs and they were both in the same profession.
6. I can literally spell any word in the world, wish we done spelling bees here.

11. Due to this I am up at about 5am on my days off. Booooo!

 Questions to answer from Loz:

1. What languages can you speak? Well I can speak a bit of French, count to 10 in German and I am still trying to teach myself Japanese.

2. What colour hair do you have? My hair is light brown with blonde underneath. I would have something more exciting but my boss wasn't exactly thrilled when my hair was pink. Oooops.

3. Cats or dogs? I like both but I'm definitely more of a cat person. I had a lovely wee cat called Zaza who died 3 years ago aged 19 and I still miss him like mad. Would love another pet but think it would be too hard.

4. Do you do New Year's resolutions? No, don't really see the point.

5. If so, what is your number 1 for 2013? See above.

6. Favourite nail art? Definitely stamping. I'm just no good at freehand, hopefully I will get better but for now I shall stick with my trusty stamping.

7. Your favourite polish colour? Aaarghh! It's too hard to pick but probably a nice glitter.

9. Summer or winter? Definitely winter. I love been all cosy and wrapped up.

10. Tea or coffee? Tea but actually would rather have a hot chocolate.

11. If you could invite anyone to dinner at your house, who would it be and why? Walt Disney. He is my idol, I don't have anything more than that I'm afraid.

Since I don't really have lot of followers I can only really choose 2 bloggers for this as the rest of my followers are over 200. I am maybe edit this as I get more followers.

Edit - I have been nominated again by Lillie at MintCandyLilies, so big thanks to her. Instead of doing a whole new post I shall just tag it on to the end of this one.

1. What age did you first start experimenting with make up? I honestly can't remember. I'm not really a big make up wearer and I don't really try anything that hard, just something really simple. Probably started wearing more make up when I left school.

2. Do you have a favourite nail varnish brand? Now this is difficult. Its like choosing children! ha ha. I go through phases, I don't know if I could pick. I am liking Zoya just now though but it will probably change again soon.

3. Who is your favourite make up guru on YouTube? This is an easy one! I absolutely adore the designs cutepolish does. Especially now she is in cahoots with Disney!

4. What would your absolute dream job be? Hmm! Now this is hard! It would essentially be something to do with Disney but I can't draw or anything arty. I also wouldn't want working at the parks to destroy the Disney magic for me! So I don't know which capacity it would be.

5. Do you get enough beauty sleep? I hardly ever get enough sleep! I work really weird shifts where I have to do 3am starts so knowing when to get sleep is really difficult, as I do like sitting up at night.

6. Do you take your make up off every night? I am really bad at this! I don't wear a lot of make up but when I do I always forget to take it off. I'm always too tired!

7. Hair up or hair down? Up. When I'm at work I get too hot and then when I'm not its just easier. Plus I think I suit my hair up more.

8. What's your absolute favourite perfume? Again I go through phases but I have always loved Miss Dior Cherie but its super expensive and not cruelty free. I have found an absolute perfect dupe at Next called Diamonds and its only £10 for 100ml! Bargain!

9. What colour blusher do you typically wear? Honestly? Just whatever I have to hand. Usually a nice pink but in summer it will sometimes change to a bronzer.

10. What's your worst hair disaster? Aaargh! When I cut my own fringe in the kitchen. I had never even had a fringe before but decided I wanted one and just grabbed a bit of hair from the front of my head. Only when I cut it it sprung back up because I had pulled it tight to cut it. I had a fringe that was like 1cm in length and I couldn't hide it for anything. I still have wee wispy bits where it was. ha ha.

11. If you could go back in time, what celebrity would you love to meet? I think its a bit obvious but I would have loved to have met Walt Disney. Not that I know what I would say, I probably would just cry a lot.

Thanks again to Lilie. I have also added some more followers since I have some more now.

Robyn x

Edit - so I've been nominated again by the lovely Camila at Miss DeLovely Cami who has a great blog on beauty and also goes cruelty free, so I shall just tag on to here.

1. What's your favorite color. Oh this is so hard as it tends to change all the time. I would say either blue or pink, for now!

2. Where is your dream place to either visit or live in? Easy! Somewhere in Japan, probably Tokyo as that's all I've experienced for now.

3. How would you describe your style? Probably best word would be different! And that's cool because I hate looking the same as everyone else.

4.Are you a neutral eyes or colorful eyes girl? Hmm. A bit of both depending on how I'm feeling.

5. Do you speak a language other than English? I speak a little bit of French and I'm still trying to teach myself Japanese which is soooo hard, any help is appreciated. lol

6. Who is your celebrity crush? Yoshiki from the Japanese band X Japan, check them out that are awesome! He is hot! I will marry him one day. Mwah ha ha! Just kidding. ( no I'm not)

7. What is your favorite candy? This is hard but probably something really sour, which is hard to find as they usually aren't sour enough.

8. What is your staple lip color? I like anything but these days I am all about nude. Just foundation over lips and a nice gloss, can't get any nuder than that.

9. What is your favorite movie? Nope. I can't do it. It would be like picking my favourite child.

10. Why did you start blogging? To keep track of my nail designs and an outgoing for my craziness!

11. What is your favorite book? You're thinking about Doughnuts by Michael Rosen

Thanks again Camila.

Robyn x

Edit - You lovely people are too kind. I have been nominated again by the lovely Denise at Pretty*Petite*Poppy which is a fab blog all about fashion, beauty and nice things in general.

1. If you were stranded on a desert island, what 3 items would you wish to have with you? This is super hard. I would like to pick something worthwhile and useful but I can't think of a single thing. Gahhh! I suck!

2. Where is your favourite place in the world? Without a doubt Tokyo! I love it and can't wait to go back.

3. What was the first concert you ever went to? Or if you haven't been to one, which would you like to be your first? Okay my first ever proper concert was Boyzone. Embarrassing alert!

4. If you had to choose between shaving all your hair off or every item of clothing you owned being taken away from you, which would you choose? I would definitely shave my hair off. Some of my clothes are one of a kind so I couldn't replace them but my hair would grow back plus I could wear cute wigs in the mean time.

5. If you won the lottery, what would be the first thing you'd buy? So weird considering I would have so much money but I would probably go on a massive shopping spree in Primark. ha ha. Before I head to Tokyo for some more cute clothes shopping of course. lol

6. What's your favourite thing about blogging? I like meeting new people and discovering lots of new blogs to enjoy.

7. Which is your favourite season? I love the cosiness (is that a word) of winter but I like spring when you can wear lots of cute clothes and stop wearing coats.

8. What is the meaning behind your blog name? I was initially going to call it something nail based but as I wanted to blog about more than just nails I thought about something to do with Disney. Since I also like to ramble about random things I thought a diary would be appropriate.

9. What is the last book you read? Probably The Help, which I absolutely loved! That much I'm too scared to watch the film. That was a while ago now though so I'm currently reading The Hunger Games.

10. What is your favourite movie of all time? Nooooo! I can't answer. Too hard. Although I could watch My Neighbour Totoro or City Lights everyday for the rest of my life and not get bored, so maybe one of those.

11. Which famous person, dead or alive would you like to meet and why? Walt Disney. I have no proper reason but he's my idol and I just love him.

Thank you again Denise.

Robyn x

Edit: So I've been tagged again by the lovely Luciana at Sailor Scout Luci who runs a cute wee blog all about fashion, randomness and life in general.

1. What is your favorite animal? My favourite is probably the panda, they're just so cute and cuddly and fat! Love it!

2. Have you ever been to the beach? I have been to the beach but its not a holiday place I would ever choose. I couldn't just sit on the beach all day though.

3. What fictional place/world would you live in if you could? I would love to live in Wonderland. Sooo weird.

4. Where do you usually blog from? Usually the couch but just where I'm sitting. In my bed just now.

5. Favorite piece of clothing? Noooo! I can't do it, that would be like picking my favourite child.

6. Favorite accessory? See above.

7. What is your favorite book? 'You're Thinking About Donuts' by Michael Rosen. Its a children's book but I still love it. Wee boy is in the museum after dark and everything comes to life. Yeah way to rip off a brilliant book Ben Stiller!

8. Favorite drink? This is a hard one as it depends how I'm feeling but I do love a nice cocktail. Makes me feel like summer.

9. Favorite band/musician? X Japan without a doubt. You should check them out. Yes I know that rhymed. :-)

10. What would it be like to live your life on a typical day? Probably really dull and boring.

11, If you could have anything, absolutely ANYTHING, what would that be? Time.

Thanks again Luci.

Robyn x

edit - Another nom, this time by the lovely Shiki over at Beauty and Destroy where she writes about fashion, music and life in general. A fab wee blog.

1. How can you describe your style? In a word, different. I can never say I belong to a particular style as I always like changing it up. I might fancy a rock look one day and a girly retro the next.

2. What kind of music do you like and why?  I've always really loved rock music and just this year got into Jrock, just love it. Yeah I need something else to make me stick out like a sore thumb. ha ha.

3. How do you spend your free time? Free time? What's that? ha ha. Surfing the net, doing my nails, watching films, shopping or anything to do with Disney.

4. If you can go back in time which age would you choose and why? [ex. Stone Age, Middle Age etc.] Probably ancient Egypt. I've always been really fascinated in this time and I even wanted to be an Egyptologist at one point.

5. Do you like Asian foods? Some of them. I'm the world's fussiest eater and am known not to try a lot but I'm getting better.

6. Who is your favorite Disney Princess? Probably Belle, I think I'm most like her. Nerd Alert!

7. What is your favorite song and do you have any special memories about this song? Oh that's hard! I don't think I could pick one. I have lots of different memories from different songs. A cop out I know.

8. What is your favorite book or manga? You're Thinking About Doughnuts by Michael Rosen. A kid's book I know but I absolutely love it.

9. Do you want to live in another country? I always think yes but then it wouldn't maybe be as special as when you just go to visit.

10. Can you play on a musical instrument? No, which I'm so sad about. I don't really have the patience for instruments though. I think I'll pick something up within a millisecond of trying it.

Thanks again Shiki.

Holly Nails - Major Fail!

Now I'm only posting this to show everyone that not all nail art turns out as expected, as this is one of those classed as nail fail!

Not a great picture I know but no amount of great photography would make this monstrosity look good.

Essie Base Coat*
Barry M Matte White
Models Own Jack Frost
Nails Inc Belgrave Mews
Nails Inc Milan - Diet Coke Special Edition
NYC Top Coat*

I kept messing up the stamping so instead of taking all the polish off just painted more coats on top which made it go all lumpy because of the glitter in the Models Own, which is a lovely glitter which I should have just left with no stamping. I shall have to swatch it another time as it really is lovely.

On top of this I couldn't find my Seche Vite, weird, so I had to just use a NYC fast dry top coat which smudged my berries and just wasn't anything like Seche Vite.

Finally, it's the next day and I've noticed the white now has a funny yellow tinge to it and has went all bubbly, so all in all not a good mani at all and I actually can't wait to take it off.

Robyn x

PS - excuse the chip on my thumb, I've been at work all day and have only just been able to capture it just now.

W7 Glitter

These are the nails I had for my wee Christmas lunch with the girls at the weekend, I was going to do some nail art but I was short on time so decided on some glitter. These glitter polishes are out of a W7(?) set I got from TK Maxx for cheap but hadn't tried them out yet.

Now it's a strange one because in the set of 5 polishes the only one with a name is the gold which is Gold Dazzle but the others have nothing not even a number so apologies but you can see it's a lovely Christmassy green on my ring finger. The usual OPI Nail Envy* as my base coat and Seche Vite as top coat. I used 3 coats of the gold and 4 coats of the green so it will be an absolute nightmare to get off and if I'm not heard from in awhile I will probably be buried under a mountain of tinfoil.

Disneyland Paris

I thought I would share some pictures from my 20th visit to Disneyland Paris last week, yes you did read that right it was my 20th visit as I've been going every year since it opened and I just love it!

I sort of got a bit carried away there, so apologies for being so pic heavy.

Winnie the Pooh Nails

So just a quick post as I have had such a busy weekend with putting up my Christmas lights, going to see Chicago and now I'm off to Disneyland Paris in a few hours!

These are my Disney nails with Winnie, Piglet and Tigger. I shall have to do an edit later with the polishes used as I don't have them to hand.

So I know the picture is crap but my camera is all packed and Winnie is facing the opposite way to what everyone else's would be but I'm really OCD about that.

Christmas Sparkle Nails - Barry M Competition

So my friend pointed out this Barry M nail art competition on ASOS and I thought I would give it a go. Now I know I will never win, even if I was the only entrant, but it was my first ever nail art competition and I had fun doing it which is all that matters right?

I started with my base coat of OPI Nail Envy* and followed this with 3 coats, yes you did read that right, of Barry M Bright Red on 4 of my nails. My accent nails is the super glitterific Amethyst Glitter, also from Barry M. Now I was looking for something super Christmassy to stamp and I had settled on a cute wee gingerbread man but he just wouldn't stamp properly. :( So I ended up using stars from plate VL-002 from Vivid Lacquer and it just stamped brilliantly, so clear. The stars were stamped using Barry M Nail Effects in Gold Foil and all nails received the obligatory coat of Seche Vite.

Et voila!

Not sure if I'm keen on the colours I used. Don't think the gold looks good with red and also with the colour of glitter, which is going to be a nightmare to get off, but all in all it's not bad.

Dainty China Print Nails

So I was kind of at loss of what to do for my next mani and I decided to look at my polish collection first to see if I got inspired by any colours. I choose an absolutely gorgeous cornflower blue from Nails Inc which actually doesn't have a name as it came free with a copy of In style magazine a while back.

I started with my base coat of OPI Nail Envy* and followed this with 2 coats of the Nails Inc blue. I plumped for a dainty image from plate BM-20 and stamped using Konad Special White(?). This was finished with an obligatory coat of Seche Vite.

Et voila!

It's not my favourite, the stamping isn't crisp or perfect enough for me but it's growing on me plus I have been getting a lot of compliments on it and I absolutely adore this blue polish.

Autumn Nails

I don't know when autumn technically turns into winter but usually in Scotland we bypass autumn altogether and launch right into winter.

Anyway onto autumn nails or fall depending on where you're from. I used OPI Nail Envy* as my base coat and the a coat of Barry M Foil Effects in Gold, followed by a coat of China Glaze in Cowardly Lyon' and a coat of China Glaze in Golden Enchantment. So I choose BM-21 for stamping the leaves and stamped them with Nails Inc in Great Dover Street and No7 Colour Lock Nail Enamel in Bronze berry*. Finished this with a coat of Seche Vite.

Et voila!

I like these, if I do say so myself, and was surprised at how clear the stamping was especially considering the No7 is about 10 years old. Remember when No7 done nail polish in square bottles? that's how old that nail polish is but as long as it works it's fine with me.

Poppy Nails

So I decided I wanted to some poppy nails for remembrance day, for anyone not aware remembrance day is on November 11th and it is to honour those who have fallen during war since the end of World War I and the symbol is the poppy due to the fact the flowers were the first thing to grow in Flanders fields after the war had ended.

I started with a coat of OPI Nail Envy* as my base and followed this with 2 coats of Collection 2000 Manicure 5 Day Wear in French White and a coat of Seche Vite to aid drying time. Now since my freehand skills are absolutely dire it was a case of finding a design that resembled poppies and I ended up going with BM-203 and used Barry M in Bright Red for stamping and dotted the centres with a Kirby grip and Barry M in Black.

Et voila!

My lovely poppy was made by a lady that works at the airport and it is so unique, I love it.

Remember Remember!

First things first you will notice from the pictures that my nails are like wee stumps, this is because I've been trying to grow them for a specific design but they had got to that length that all they want to do is break so I had to cut them all. :( Also, I've been wanting to do my nails for days but I've been poorly and I feel like I could rip my throat out and wouldn't feel any worse, my Mum says I must be ill if I can't even be bothered doing my nails, although I had to drag myself out last night but totally worth it. I'm feeling it now though, at least I've been off work for 5 days. Woop!

So I decided I wanted to do some sort of manicure for bonfire night but also using my new China Glaze nail polish. I looked through my plates to see if I had any designs that resembled fireworks or explosions and I ended up choosing bundle monster plate BM20, the one with the stars and arrows that I thought looked like rockets.

I started off with a coat of OPI Nail Envy* and followed with 3 coats of China Glaze in Flying Dragons (neon) which is a really nice shimmery purple but needs a few coats to make it totally opaque, also this one dries matte which I wish China Glaze would put on their bottles. Next, the obligatory coat of Seche Vite to help dry and then I stamped the design in Barry M Foil Effects in Silver, these polishes are just the best for stamping.

Et voila!

Now you will notice from the pictures that my ring finger has a caviar manicure, well I done this yesterday lunchtime and by the time I was getting ready to go out last night they were all flying off so I took it off and just done the same design as the rest of my nails. But for the info it was the same base colour on my nail and then MUA Nail Constellations in Leo.

So those were my bonfire night nails which I never actually went to see any fireworks last night as I went to see Michael McIntyre instead which was AMAAAAZING! I have never laughed so much in my entire life, I actually had to hold my stomach it was hurting that much and it hasn't actually helped me at all because I am even more in love with him now. Ha.

Anyway here are some pictures from the fireworks display I saw on Saturday night right from my bedroom window, beats standing in the freezing cold.
